HERANA Forum: University of Mauritius
Delegates from the Higher Education Research Advocacy Network in Africa (HERANA) visited the University of Mauritius in July 2016 to present their findings on the project entitled ‘Strengthening Research Universities in Africa’. The Centre for Higher Education and Trust (CHET) worked in collaboration with 8 Flagship Universities of the African Sub Saharan Region. The Forum was attended by members of the University, Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research, Tertiary Education Commission, Mauritius Research Council and International members representing the Higher Education sector. The HERANA project was geared towards determining as to whether the institutional capacities to collect and analyse data have strengthened during HERANA II & III (2011-2016). The aim was also to find out if the HERANA project has contributed to revise institutional policies for the flagship Universities. The project has been very useful to shape UoM Policies and Strategies over the past years. It has enabled an in-depth analysis of data for the Second Cycle Quality Audit of the UoM in 2012, it has enabled the University to identify its main strengths and weaknesses leading to the update of the new Strategic Plan 2015-2020 and to evaluate the Quality of Higher Education at UoM with emphasis on Research.
