HERANA 3 Seminar 2015
The 2015 HERANA meeting took place from 22-27 November in Stellenbosch and Cape Town.
The series of meetings commenced with two days of seminars on bibliometrics presented by Prof. Johann Mouton (SciSTIP, Stellenbosch University) and Prof. Robert Tijssen (SciSTIP, Stellenbosch University, and Leiden University). The seminar was titled What is Scientometrics and Bibliometrics? How can it be used at African research-active universities? What can we learn from the latest international developments? and was held in the computer labs at SciSTIP in Stellenbosch.
On the third day, HERANA was hosted by the University of Cape Town for a day of lectures and seminars on research management.
For the last two days, the meetings moved to the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town where representatives from the HERANA institutions presented data collected on their respective universities and shared their insights from the data. Discussions were also held on the next round of data collection, the integration of data onto a centralised, online data management system, the type and format of research publication data to be collected, and the HERANA university-community engagement project. More information and the full programme can be found below.
The launch for Doctoral Education in South Africa by Nico Cloete, Johann Mouton and Charles Sheppard was co-located with the HERANA seminar. Photos from the launch are included below.
